Vice President Joe Biden said on saturday that the United States would continue the trade embargo against Cuba, thought there were other ways in which the Cuba policy needed a 'transition'.

The trade embargo has been on for 47 years now.

Former Cuban President Fidel Castro, in a column published on the internet, said this was a pity - all Latin American nations viewed the embargo as "a thing of the past". He said the US policy on Cuba was "filled with problems and insurmountable contradictions with the people of Latin America."
