Karl Rove, who was Deputy Chief of Staff to president George W Bush, called vice president Joe Biden a 'serial exaggerator' on Fox News. "If I was being unkind I would say liar," he said.

At issue were Biden's claims of publicly dressing down president Bush on several occasions. Biden said on a CNN interview that once, when Bush called himself a leader, Biden told Bush to look behind him - no one was following. Biden says that on several other occasions he has criticised Bush on his Iraq policy too.

Rove says none of this is true - as do other Bush aides like former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, chief of staff Andy Card and legislative liaison Candida Wolff.
